HKU Excellence Awards Presentation Ceremony for 2025

HKU believes that the talent and expertise of our academics are priceless assets. The HKU Excellence Awards presented annually are a salute to the exceptional and inspirational accomplishments of our colleagues and a celebration of the diverse range of disciplines and specialisations at the University.

The HKU Excellence Awards Presentation Ceremony for 2025 was held in the Rayson Huang Theatre on April 30 to celebrate the outstanding achievements of our scholars in teaching and research, as well as their significant contributions to knowledge exchange between the University and society.

The Ceremony was officiated by HKU President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Xiang Zhang, with Pro-Chancellor Dr the Honourable Sir David Li Kwok-po as the Guest of Honour.

During the Ceremony, more than 20 exceptional academics were recognised with various awards including the Outstanding Teaching Award, Early Career Teaching Award, Teaching Innovation Award, Outstanding Researcher Award, Outstanding Young Researcher Award, Outstanding Research Student Supervisor Award and Knowledge Exchange Excellence Award.

The occasion also featured a special tribute to Professor Max Shen of the Faculty of Business and Economics and Department of Data and Systems Engineering celebrating his election as an International Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.

In a first for the University and Hong Kong, HKU alumna Dr Lai Ka-ying was selected to join the Shenzhou-23 manned spaceflight mission as a payload specialist, marking a new chapter of participation by Hong Kong’s scientific community in the national space programmes.
