Celebrating HKU Alumni Day

Marking 115 Years of Excellence with Campus Festivities
HKU Alumni Day 2026

The HKU spirit was in full force on March 14, as the University held a jubilant Alumni Day, a highlight of the University’s 115th-anniversary celebrations. This landmark event, the third since its inception in 2024, drew more than 5,000 alumni, friends, and family members to the HKU Main Campus.

A commemorative ceremony in front of the iconic Main Building was officiated by HKU President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Xiang Zhang. Addressing the attendees, Professor Zhang expressed his profound pride in the University’s 115-year legacy and unveiled bold new initiatives to attract world-class talent and strengthen HKU’s global influence. Emphasising the indispensable role of the alumni community as the University’s foremost partners, he said, “Your achievements, advocacy, and generous spirit make our shared vision a reality.”

A key announcement during the ceremony was the launch of the Convocation Enrichment Bursary for Outbound Students by Mr Mak Tung-wing, Chairman of the HKU Convocation, and Professor Yang Wang, Vice-President and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Institutional Advancement). Funded by initial donations from enthusiastic alumni, the bursary aims to support students in accessing quality education and pursuing non-local experiential learning opportunities, regardless of their financial circumstances.

Excitement for HKU Alumni Day 2026 was built up by the prelude event, ‘Run with HKU 2026’, in which over 1,700 alumni across 40 locations worldwide participated. In recognition of the outstanding enthusiasm of this remarkable global engagement, HKU Vice-Presidents and the Chairperson of the 115th Anniversary Working Group presented awards to individuals and alumni associations for their exceptional dedication to strengthening HKU’s global alumni network and reach.

Continuing a vibrant tradition for the University, HKU Alumni Day 2026 featured a diverse programme of activities organised by HKU’s faculties, departments, museums, libraries, alumni associations, and alumni-run businesses, offering an engaging experience for attendees of all ages.

Some of the festive events included photo sessions with graduating classes of selected years – most notably senior graduates from the Class of 1956; an open house at the HKU Black Box performance space and the new HKU History Gallery; exclusive visits to the Conservation Laboratory at HKU Libraries; special phone booths for alumni to share their favourite stories about their alma mater; and a ‘Snap and Stamp Rally’ where participants were able to create their own hand-stamped postcard at five locations across campus!
