On October 25, 2025, the University of Hong Kong opened its doors to an impressive turnout of approximately 76,000 prospective students and their families during its Information Day for Undergraduate Admissions (IDay). The event was a vibrant showcase of admissions talks, programme information sessions, facility tours, and interactive experiential activities, all centred around the theme ‘AI for Every Mind’.
The IDay showcased HKU’s innovative integration of artificial intelligence across diverse academic disciplines, demonstrating how AI transcends traditional boundaries of computer science and engineering. Visitors discovered that AI is increasingly woven into various fields, including the arts, humanities, business, medicine, law, and social sciences. This cross-disciplinary integration positions HKU as a leader in preparing students for the complexities of a rapidly evolving and technology-driven world.
Professor Jay Siegel, Vice-President and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Teaching and Learning) of HKU, engaged with prospective students, highlighting the University’s commitment to empowering them with vital skills for personal development and professional success. “At HKU, our mission is to ensure that every student, regardless of their field of study, develops a comprehensive ability to develop, articulate and defend their own belief structure and decision-making logic. Our new programmes across all faculties demonstrate our unwavering commitment to preparing our students with timeless tools to tackle the dynamic challenges and opportunities of tomorrow. Our newly established interdisciplinary schools, including Computing and Data Science, Innovation, Biomedical Engineering, Governance and Policy, and Future Media are all founded to address unmet human needs and to position our graduates as leaders who will leverage the tools of AI ethically in the pursuit of their human-centric vision of a socially responsible future,” he stated.
HKU offers cutting-edge programmes that seamlessly integrate AI with core disciplinary knowledge across its faculties and schools. The event also marked the launch of an array of new AI-related programmes set to debut in the 2025–26 academic year. Highlights include the Delta+ programme offered by the School of Computing and Data Science, preparing students for careers in computing, AI and data science, and featuring studies at the HKU-CDS Teaching and Research Site in Shanghai and a unique co-operative placement in Shanghai’s AI ecosystem. Two new interdisciplinary schools – the School of Biomedical Engineering and the School of Innovation – also offer pioneering undergraduate programmes in advanced and innovative technologies.
In addition to admissions talks and workshops, the IDay also featured a lively student performance parade – ranging from a lion dance to band and dance performances – celebrating HKU’s 115th anniversary, and showcasing the diverse talents within the student body.
Looking ahead, HKU invites prospective students who are eager to harness artificial intelligence responsibly across various fields to join its thriving academic community.
